Incredibly Talented Broadcasting Professional Receives Syndication Within The Distinguished Ranks Of Stanford Who's Who
Stanford Who's Who welcomes Elizabeth Brackett to the ranks of premier professionals as a result of her sensational work in the Television Broadcasting Industry.
CHICAGO, IL, March 16, 2010 /Stanford Who's Who/ -- Stanford Who's Who welcomes Elizabeth Brackett to the ranks of premier professionals as a result of her sensational work in the Television Broadcasting Industry. As a Correspondent for The Newshour with Jim Lehrer as well as throughout her brilliant 30 year professional career, Elizabeth has consistently displayed the passion, dedication and diligence necessary to be among the best.
Elizabeth has had quite an interesting career full of accomplishment in a variety of avenues. The journey she has been on has taken her through the fields of social work, politics, journalism and she has even authored a book.
Her journalism career, which began in 1977, is incredibly impressive on its own. Elizabeth began as a researcher on the assignment desk of WBBM-TV in Chicago. In 1979, she joined the team of WGN-TV and later became a reporter at WLS-TV. Brackett moved on to join the forerunner to the PBS broadcasted The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer in 1984.
Elizabeth won a national Emmy award in 1987 for her spectacular reporting on the U.S. farm crisis and a Peabody Award for her outstanding coverage of the 1988 presidential election. As if that were not enough achievement, Brackett has also received three Midwest Emmy awards and two Peter Lisagor awards for her exceptional work in the field as well.
She began appearing occasionally on WTTW's Chicago Tonight public affairs program in 1991. In 1994, Elizabeth was hired as a full-time correspondent for Chicago Tonight, which is also when she was taken on as a contributor to The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer. From 2000 until 2001, Brackett, worked alongside journalist and comedian Aaron Freeman, as they co-hosted a science-themed spin-off of Chicago Tonight which was entitled Chicago Tomorrow.
Earlier in her career, Elizabeth worked part time as a social worker at the YMCA in Chicago as well as with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services where she was also a community organizer. As for her political career, Brackett worked diligently as a delegate to the Democratic presidential convention in Miami, along with Jesse Jackson and William Singer in 1972. She then went on to serve as a fundraiser and advance director for Mr. Singer's bid to become mayor of Chicago in 1975.
Brackett authored a book in 2009 about former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich, which was titled Pay to Play, How Rod Blagojevich Turned Political Corruption Into a National Sideshow.
Elizabeth attended Indiana University for her undergraduate studies and earned a Master's Degree in Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake College. She is a member of the Chicago Women's Network. Brackett is also a World Champion Triathlete who took the title in Sydney in 2009.
