/Television PR News/ - MINNEAPOLIS, MN, August 25, 2007 - Director Andrew Hunt, who made it to the top-ten on the Fox Television reality series On The Lot, created by Steven Spielberg and Survivor creator Mark Burnett, tapped Splice Here (www.splicehere.tv) colorist Michael Sandness to color-correct, color grade and finish his recent three- minute dark comedy short entitled "Polished." On The Lot airs Tuesdays on Fox.

"I've worked with a lot of young independent filmmakers and have experience in helping them take their work to the next level," said Sandness, "and with this Andrew let me do just that. He was completely open to ideas about pushing the visuals and using color to help tell the story."

"Polished" is a mostly silent comedic romp involving an office-building janitor who gets no respect from the white-collars he cleans up after, but he finds a slippery (and hilarious) way to exact his revenge. Celebrity judge Carrie Fisher liked it, calling it "good" and "sweet," while judge Garry Marshall observed that "revenge works" in film and praised Hunt's leading man.

For Sandness, who used Apple's new Color software, (part of the new Final Cut Studio 2 package) to color correct/color grade the film, it was important that viewers get a sense of the office as the janitor sees it - a cold and unwelcoming environment. To that end, Sandness and Hunt pushed the florescent, saturated lighting. "Because it's set in an office environment where workers don't think too much of the main character we went for an uncomfortable, cold look," said Sandness.

Sandness also noted that given Splice Here's state-of-the-art Apple infrastructure, the workflow turned out to be incredibly easy.

"Andrew shot this film in HD and off-lined in Final Cut Pro," explained Sandness. "He brought all the footage in on his iPod, loaded it into Final Cut Studio and we went right to work. Everything was seamless. He walked in with an iPod and left with a broadcast ready tape."
