/Television PR News/ - DEERFIELD, BEACH, FL - August 02, 2006 - Platinum Television Group is pleased to announce the selection of The Bariatric Center of Ocala Regional Medical Center, located in Florida, for its innovative, educational television series, Health Forum. The Center will be featured in a segment on "Surgical Weight Loss Solutions" as part of a Medical Trends series.

Ocala Regional Medical Center offers several types of bariatric surgery-- gastric bypass Roux-en-Y and adjustable Lap-Band are the newest. Both of these procedures can be performed laparoscopically, which means smaller incisions and faster recovery times for patients. The minimally invasive procedure lessens the amount of pain and promotes early recovery, with reduction in later complications like hernias and adhesions. Traditional gastric bypass surgery is also offered.

Obesity is at epidemic proportions in the United States. Over 50% of the adult population is overweight and five% of the population, roughly 15 million, is severely overweight, greater than 100 pounds over his/her ideal body weight for his/her particular height or having a body mass index of 40 or higher.

Ocala Regional Medical Center has also recently unveiled its Endo i-SuiteÔ operating room—a fully integrated voice-controlled state-of-the-art operating room of the future. It is the first hospital in Central Florida to offer this.
It features a SwitchPointÔ Infinity central control system and a voice-controlled system called Sidne HD (Stryker Intelligent Device Network High Definition) which allows surgeons to use voice commands thru a headset microphone to operate a number of tools during surgery. Much of the equipment in the special operating room is suspended on arms from the ceiling, reducing the amount of equipment that can clutter the operating room. Dr. Muhammad Jawad, medical director of The Bariatric Center, has said of the new system: "Sidne provides me with a real advantage by giving direct control over the medical equipment, making my work easier and more effective. More importantly, the patient benefits the most." Dr. Jawad has performed over 1,100 laparoscopic bariatric surgeries with a zero mortality rate.

Health Forum features trends, discoveries and knowledge of interest for those concerned with health and fitness. It is aired on nationally on WE Women's Entertainment and Oxygen, and regionally on PAX-TV, and is produced by Platinum Television Group.
